I’m about to get a brand new job and a new apartment.
I’m so excited!
But the moment I step outside the building and start thinking about it, I realise how little I know about this new job.
It’s an amazing job.
And yet it’s not for me.
So I decide to take some time to figure out exactly what I’m missing out on.
I start by thinking about what I want to learn about and where I want it to take me.
Then I search for answers.
The first thing I find is a small book about the history of the boutique industry, and it’s about as relevant as you can get.
Its called “The Art of the Price Tag”.
Then I search the web and I stumble across a video on YouTube of a young girl talking about her experience.
She talks about how she wanted to become a teacher, but didn’t know what she was good at, or what she had to offer the profession.
“So I tried teaching, and then I started working for my parents, and now I teach, and I teach in the middle of nowhere,” she says.
This is one of the first videos I see that explains the basics of how the business works, and how it can help you in your search for the perfect career.
She tells me that she didn’t expect to be in a profession like that, but now she has a new way of working.
Another video she’s seen talks about her time as a salesperson at a small jewelry store, where she had a few bad experiences and a lot of stress.
She decided that she would try something different.
Finally, I find a YouTube channel that shows a video about how to get into a boutique.
My next step is to check out the jobs page on the website.
There are jobs for all kinds of jobs.
As I browse, I get to know the people in the company, and decide to get on board.
And then I realise that there is no way to really do all this in a week.
When I look back on my career, I feel like I’ve just spent months studying all this material.
After a couple of weeks, I decide I want a full-time job.
I ask my boss, and he agrees.
He says that I should join his boutique.
He also tells me to start my own website.
When I get home from work, I open up a new browser window, and my first thought is: what am I going to do?
I am so excited, but my first thoughts are not about the work I’m doing, but rather what to do with all this time.
